Counseling

School Counselors support the social/emotional, college/career/life, and academic growth of ALL students. We will teach class lessons, provide brief individual and small group counseling, consult with parents and school staff, and provide referrals to outside agencies/supports.

• Class Lessons

We will teach lessons to classes based on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Mindsets & Behaviors. Topics will vary for each grade level and will be based on general developmental needs/trends, school data, and staff input. Examples include self-regulation, identifying feelings, coping skills, conflict resolution, healthy friendships, learning skills, career awareness, and more!

• Small Group Counseling

We will see some students in small groups for limited amounts of time (usually once a week for about 8 weeks) to develop skills and provide support. Topics vary from year to year and are based on need as expressed by school data, school staff, parents, and/or students. Parent/guardian permission will be obtained. 

• Brief Individual Counseling

We will meet with individual students who might need a little extra support, help with solving a problem, or need to express feelings/concerns. These sessions are brief, and students can be referred by school staff, parents, or themselves. If more time or intensity is needed, we can refer you to Pathways or provide a list of local therapists who might be able to better serve your child’s needs. School counselors are not licensed to provide long-term therapy during the academic instructional day. 

Odie is Morris Brandon's therapy dog. He passed tests & observations to become certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. He is a beloved staff member and "furapist." Students & staff often feel much calmer and happy in his presence. He will mainly be at the primary campus with Ms. Gilliam but will make appearances at the main campus from time to time.
